The Mistreatment of Mr. H. Potter

On pg. 19, Rowling writes, “Harry was used to spiders, because the cupboard under the stairs was full of them, and that was where he slept.”
  • This is just the beginning of Harry’s mistreatment.
  • We find out later that multiple people have been invited into the Dursley’s home over the years. Do you find it plausible that Child Protective Services was never involved? Why or why not?
  • Do you think there is a Wizarding World Child Protective Services? Why did they never get involved?
  • Do you think the Wizarding World knows where Harry is?

  • What do you think the past ten years of Harry’s life have been like?
  • Has he always been mistreated?
  • Would you classify his mistreatment as neglect/abuse? Why or why not?
  • Harry is frequently told not to ask questions. How does this relate to the suppression of his cultural (if so far unknown) identity as a wizard?
