On pg. 53, Rowling writes, “ ‘A Muggle,’ said Hagrid, ‘it’s what we call non-magic folk like them. An’ it’s your bad luck you grew up in a family o’ the biggest Muggles I ever laid eyes on.’“
  • Is “Muggle” a derogatory term?
  • Do you think Harry's children will be embarassed later in life when he continues to throw the word "muggle" around?
  • Is this an example of Hagrid “othering” non-magical folk? Why or why not?
  • How do you feel about the term "no-maj" that we have just heard is the American word for "muggle"
