Bullying and Lack of Support

Post by Admin on Sat Nov 07, 2015 5:43 pm

Early in the chapter, Malfoy puts Neville in a Leg-Locker Curse and tells him he isn’t brave enough to be in Gryffindor.  Hermione reverses the curse and Harry tells Neville he’s worth twelve of Malfoy, but that is the end of the support he receives.

  • How are the adults in Hogwarts so oblivious to the blatant bullying occurring in their school?
  • Why are their no repercussions for students (or teachers) who bully other students?
  • Where are the school counselors?  If there aren’t any school counselors, why don’t the House Heads get involved?
  • If we saw a female being bullied this mercilessly, would the faculty be more likely to do something about it?  If so, what does that say about gender roles and norms within Hogwarts?
